Corning Named to ‘Best-of-the-Best’ for Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Corning Incorporated has been recognized for the fourth straight year for its commitment to global diversity and inclusion.

Corning was among the corporations named recently to the Best-of-the-Best list of companies by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and its partners in the National Business Inclusion Consortium (NBIC).

"Corning's Values and our commitment to diversity and inclusion form the foundation of our company's common culture, which unites us as one Corning worldwide," said Monica Bankston, talent manager, Global Diversity & Inclusion, who accepted the recognition on April 10 at the fourth annual Best-of-the-Best Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. "Our diverse talent gives us a strategic advantage that drives innovation. For Corning to recruit and retain the best and the brightest employees, we consistently provide an inclusive environment where all employees can thrive."

Corning was one of 50 companies honored with the designation this year. NGLCC formed the NBIC in 2011 and its members represent a total of more than $9 trillion in annual economic strength. Only companies achieving industry-leading results across all diverse segments are eligible to receive the designation. NBIC members include, in addition to NGLCC, U.S. Black Chambers Inc., Disability: IN, U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

"The Best-of-the-Best designation honors corporations for their commitment to America's diverse employees and business owners, which includes LGBT people, people of color, women, and people with disabilities," said Justin Nelson, NGLCC co-founder and president. "This designation is highly competitive and is bestowed only to corporations that we see constantly striving to strengthen and celebrate diversity. These corporations being honored are true leaders in ongoing global commitments to create a better future for all diverse communities in business."

Demonstrating commitment to diversity is the smartest strategy for all businesses, said Chance Mitchell, NGLCC co-founder and chief executive officer.

"The select group of Fortune 500 companies honored with a Best-of-the-Best designation are innovators and trailblazers for inclusion and are constantly raising the bar forward for themselves, their peers, and their competitors," he said. "While we honored some extraordinary leaders at the Best-of-the-Best Awards Gala, the great work of ensuring opportunity for all of us is a year-round commitment. We look forward to working with these great companies for decades to come in shaping a more inclusive economy for all."
