Corning continues to pursue a variety of energy-saving solutions, including replacing conventional lighting units with light emitting diode (LED) systems in its facilities.
Along with saving energy, the LED systems are providing a return on investment, and also making work areas safer and reducing waste. For example, in the Life Sciences plant in Borre, France, LED lighting saves the plant about $57,000 annually.
Further, better quality light helps avoid trips and falls, and motion detectors avoid employees looking for a light switch in a dark room.
“The initiative is not only delivering energy savings, it is also improving environmental impact, safety, work conditions, and production performance of our site in Borre,” said Christophe Briche, plant manager.
